What you are actually buying

One verandah post, turned to the V1 profile, in LOSP treated pine, supplied unpainted and ready to prime. Post caps, capitals and pyramid tops are separate items, as are the matching V1D droppers that hang from the beam between posts. The price table below is per post.

V1 sections and lengths

Three squared sections — 88 x 88mm, 112 x 112mm and 135 x 135mm — and five lengths: 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m and 3.6m. Every section is made in every length.

Why V1 to V5 all cost the same

Because they are the same post. V1, V2, V3, V4 and V5 are turned from one treated pine blank in the same three sections and the same five lengths, and they share a single stock code family in our price list. That is worth knowing before you spend an evening choosing: you are picking a shape, not a price bracket. Look at the profile, not the number — the V2 is the second of the five turnings and the V3 is the one also made as a V3B.

How to choose a section

As a rule of thumb, 88 x 88mm suits a modest single-fronted cottage or a small entry porch, 112 x 112mm is the everyday size on a standard Victorian or Federation frontage, and 135 x 135mm is what a wide double-fronted facade or a heavily loaded beam wants. That is proportion advice, not a load rating — if the post is carrying structure, have your builder confirm the size.

How to measure

Take the height from the finished verandah floor to the underside of the beam, and allow for the base detail and for any fall in the floor. If you are replacing one post in an existing run, photograph the original square-on with a tape laid against it before it comes out, and prop the roof before you touch it.

Timber, guarantee and finishing

LOSP treated pine, H3 rated for outdoor use above ground. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, these posts carry our 25 year guarantee. Prime all six faces with two thin coats of oil-based primer before the post is installed, then topcoat — and keep the paint film sound afterwards. The treatment protects the timber; the paint protects the surface.

Product and ordering questions

What sections and lengths does the V1 verandah post come in?

Three squared sections - 88 x 88mm, 112 x 112mm and 135 x 135mm - and five lengths: 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m and 3.6m. Every section is made in every length.

How do I measure for a replacement verandah post?

Take the height from the finished verandah floor to the underside of the beam, and allow for the base detail and for any fall in the floor. If you are replacing one post in an existing run, photograph the original square-on with a tape laid against it before it comes out, and prop the roof before you touch it.
