Decorative Relief & Barge Boards — DR1, DR2 and DR3
DR1, DR2 and DR3 decorative relief strips are sold per 1200 mm length. BB3 is a separate made-to-order barge board: use its pricing page and confirm your profile, length and quantity with the workshop.
Decorative relief is the raised trim that frames and finishes a period exterior — run along a fascia, up the rake of a gable, or as a band across a wall. The Heritage & Decorative Timber Products range is three patterns: DR1, DR2 and DR3. Every one is supplied in 1200mm lengths, 120mm high and 9mm thick, made from treated marine ply, and each is priced per length. Barge boards, code BB3, sit alongside them and are made to order.

Which decorative relief patterns are available, and what size are they?
Three: DR1, DR2 and DR3. All three are the same size — 1200mm long x 120mm high x 9mm thick — and differ only in the pattern worked into the face, so you can choose on appearance alone and the setting out does not change. They are sold by the length, not by the lineal metre. Prices for all three are on our decorative relief and barge boards pricing page.
What is decorative relief made from?
The DR1, DR2 and DR3 decorative relief patterns are made from treated marine ply, not solid LOSP H3 treated pine. They are applied decorative trim rather than the underlying fascia or barge board. Specify the relief pattern and the board it will be fixed to separately when requesting a quote, and use a finishing system suited to exterior plywood.

Does the 25 year guarantee cover decorative relief?
No, and it is worth being clear about why. Our guarantee is a 25 year guarantee on external LOSP H3 treated pine, above ground. The DR range is treated marine ply, which is a different material under a different treatment, so the guarantee does not attach to it. Our gable infills are excluded for the same reason — they are 9mm ply. If a page or a listing tells you decorative relief is covered, it is wrong.
How many 1200mm lengths do I need?
Measure the total run the relief has to cover, in metres, and divide by 1.2 — each length covers 1.2 metres. Round up, then allow at least one extra length for cuts, mitres and the offcut you lose at each corner or return. A gable is two rakes, so measure both sides rather than doubling one.

How is decorative relief fixed and finished?
Applied relief is glued and pinned to the face of the board or wall, then filled and finished so the join disappears. Prime and paint every face before it goes up, including the back and all cut edges — the cut edges of ply are the first place moisture gets in. Note that the oil-based primer rule in our care instructions applies to our LOSP treated pine products; for the ply relief range, use a primer suited to exterior plywood.
What about barge boards?
Our BB3 barge board is the standard pattern. It is made to order and priced by the lineal metre, and we need the roof pitch before we can make it. No section is published for BB3, so ask when you quote. If you are working out what a whole roofline needs, or matching an existing shaped fascia, start on our timber fascias and barge boards page, which covers measuring and profile matching in full.
Can you match an original?
Yes. Send an offcut of the original relief where you can, or a clear photograph with a tape measure in shot for scale. Ask about our timber-profile matching service. Australian made, free quotes, delivered to your home or site. Call 03 9720 1996.
