Skirting & Architraves Made and Matched in Melbourne
Most architrave and skirting problems in a period house are problems of geometry rather than taste: an arched opening, a porthole window, a bay that curves, a stair string carrying its skirting round a bend. Straight stock will not do it, and the existing profile is not in the standard range. An architrave is also called a door surround, a casing or window frame moulding; skirting is also called a skirting board or a baseboard. Heritage & Decorative Timber Products machines skirting and architraves in MDF, pine and hardwood, in any height or section size. Straight mouldings are supplied in 5.4 metre lengths. Our cutter library holds more than 5,000 other profiles available on request, and we can match a discontinued section from a sample or a clear, square-on photograph with a tape measure against the face.

Can you match an architrave or skirting profile that is no longer made?
Matching discontinued mouldings is a central service of this workshop. Our most competitive pricing is for matching runs under 150 lineal metres; the quote still depends on the profile, material, section and quantity. Ask about our timber-profile matching service; we can work from a photograph, drawing or sample. Send a 200mm offcut where possible; failing that, send a square-on photograph with a tape measure laid against the face of the moulding. Include a clear view of the end section so the width, thickness and moulded shape can be compared. Our moulding profile matching guide explains how to prepare the sample and photographs. Identify damaged or paint-filled edges rather than guessing the original profile.
How are straight skirting and architraves supplied?
Straight skirting boards and architraves are made to order and supplied in 5.4 metre lengths. Choose MDF, pine or hardwood, then tell us the profile, finished height, thickness and total lineal metres. Every moulding on this page is quote only: no price is assumed until the material, size and quantity are known.

Which architrave and skirting profiles do you run as standard?
Our standard architrave families are PBA, CV, XA, TT, FN, VA, GS, DT, AH, LT, XG and Empire SA. The skirting families are PBA, CV, XA, TT, FN, PK, BV, DT, AJ, LT, XG and Empire SA. Nine of those — PBA, CV, XA, TT, FN, DT, LT, XG and Empire SA — run as a matched pair, so the section around a door and the one running into it belong together. VA, GS and AH are architrave only; PK, BV and AJ are skirting only. The sections are photographed as profiles, which is worth a look before you talk sizes.
Can you make an arched or porthole architrave?
We make both, to your measurements rather than bent from straight stock. External arched architraves are manufactured in L.O.S.P. pine or any timber of your choice. Internal arched and porthole architraves are manufactured from MDF or any timber, in any shape and any profile.

Will skirting follow a curved wall?
Curved wall skirting boards are made to any internal or external radius, in any profile and any timber — as is skirting that has to climb a staircase stringer.
What do you need in order to quote?
For a straight run, the total lineal metres and either the profile name or an offcut. For an arch, the springing width, the rise to the crown, and the width of the architrave face — a rubbing or a card template is better still. For curved skirting, the radius, whether it is concave or convex, and the height of the board. Label straight and curved sections separately in the quote enquiry, and include the material, quantity and delivery postcode; a total lineal-metre figure does not describe the curve. The curved architrave and skirting guide explains the measurements for those sections.

What else finishes an architrave run?
Square rosette corner blocks sit at the head of the architrave, so no mitre is needed. They are made at 67 x 67mm and 92 x 92mm, in MDF at 18mm or pine and kiln-dried hardwood at 19mm. We also run treated pine cap and base mouldings by the lineal metre: a large cap moulding at 65 x 51mm, a small cap moulding at 22 x 15mm, and a base moulding at 230 x 30mm.
What timber are they made from, and does the 25 year guarantee apply?
Architraves and skirting are interior work, and the guarantee does not extend to them. Our 25 year guarantee is a guarantee on external LOSP H3 treated pine, above ground. Internal architraves, porthole architraves and curved skirting are made from MDF, clear pine — which is untreated — or whatever timber you specify, and none of those is covered. The one exception is the external arched architrave in LOSP H3 treated pine. Whatever the timber, prime and paint all faces before fixing.
