14 priced items in this range, from $26.77 each to $43.68 each.
Every price and size, with photographs and Add to quote →A timber fence post cap or post capital finishes the top of a fence or verandah post. A turned post knob provides a decorative profile; a pyramid post top provides a simpler shaped cap. Heritage & Decorative Timber Products makes three turned knob profiles, two pyramid post tops and three pyramid/Danish-style capitals. Compare the post section and mounting shape as well as the design so the selected cap fits the post.

Which post knob designs do you make?
Three turned profiles, each with a flat bottom for easy mounting:
- C1 — Ball
- C2 — Acorn
- C3 — Windsor
Ball is the plain sphere and the safest choice on a long fence run. Acorn is the traditional Victorian gate-post top. Windsor is the most architectural of the three, and suits a verandah or entry post.
What sizes do the post knobs come in?
C1, C2 and C3 are each listed in two standard diameters — 86mm and 108mm — under the codes C195 / C295 / C395 and C1120 / C2120 / C3120. Larger capitals are carried in all three profiles as C1140, C2140, C3140 and C1200, C2200, C3200; ask us to confirm the finished diameter of those, because the number inside the code and the diameter quoted against it are not the same measurement.

What are pyramid post tops, and what posts do they suit?
A pyramid post top is a plain four-sided cap, also flat-bottomed, and it is the right answer where a turned knob would be too decorative. Two are made: C4120 for a 120 x 120mm post and C4140 for a 140 x 140mm post.
What is a pyramid/Danish-style capital?
A separate, more shaped cap in three sizes — and usefully, these are specified by the post they fit rather than by their own dimensions: PYR95 for posts 90–95mm, PYR120 for posts 100–120mm, and PYR140 for posts 125–140mm. Because they are quoted as ranges, a weathered or slightly undersized post is still covered.

How do I measure my post?
Measure the post across the flats at the top, not at the base. Posts are often chamfered, and old ones weather unevenly, so the two figures are rarely the same. If the cap slips over the post rather than sitting on it, measure the post itself — the internal socket is what has to fit. The cap should overhang slightly on every face, so water is thrown clear instead of running back down the side. Matching a run, photograph one cap square-on with a tape measure alongside and give us the post section. Keep the post width, finished cap diameter and product code separate: a number within a code does not necessarily state the finished diameter. A gable finial is a separate roofline feature, so choose from that range when replacing an ornament at a gable apex.
What timber are they made from, and are they guaranteed?
Our turned post capitals and pyramid caps are made using treated pine. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, they carry our 25 year guarantee.

How should a post cap be fixed and finished?
Bed the cap on a full bead of exterior adhesive, then pin or screw it down, leaving no gap for water to sit in — a capped post that traps water rots faster than an uncapped one. Prime before fixing, not after: two thin coats of oil-based primer on every face including the underside, which nobody can reach once it is on. LOSP is solvent-borne and needs an oil-based primer to bond. Allow 72 hours after delivery before painting, keep the timber dry until then, and finish with two to three thin topcoats. Check and touch up annually.
Ask about our timber-profile matching service and send the old cap or clear photographs. For a post-cap quote, include the chosen code, post section, quantity and delivery postcode. Australian made, delivered Australia-wide. Call 03 9720 1996.
