V2 Federation Verandah Post — Sections, Lengths & Prices

The V2 is the second of the five turned Federation posts made by Heritage & Decorative Timber Products. Most people arrive at this page for one of two reasons: they are replacing a rotted post and trying to work out which of our profiles matches the four still standing, or they are building a new verandah and want a turning that will not look like a hardware-store approximation of one.

Still choosing a profile? Compare all V1–V8 timber verandah posts, including sections and lengths, before selecting your V2 size below.

What you get

  • Australian made — every product, made in our Bayswater workshop since 1984
  • 25 year guarantee — on external LOSP H3 treated pine, above ground
  • An answer within one business day — we reply to enquiries and quote requests
  • In stock, or made in 1 to 4 weeks — some of the range is in stock; the rest is made to order
  • Timber-profile matching — from a photograph, drawing or sample

Matching an existing verandah

If you are restoring, do not order from a thumbnail. Photograph one of the surviving posts square-on, in good light, with a tape measure held against the shaft so we can read the scale, and send it to us. Send a second shot of the base and a third of the head where the post meets the beam. Between the photographs and two measurements — the floor-to-beam height and the squared section of the existing post — we can tell you whether V2 is what you have, or which of the five it really is. Our matching service costs nothing.

V2 sections and lengths

Three squared sections — 88 x 88mm, 112 x 112mm and 135 x 135mm — in five lengths: 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m and 3.6m. Every combination is made and priced.

One price across V1 to V5

The five Federation turnings run off the same treated pine blank in the same sizes and share a single stock code family, so they cost the same as each other at any given section and length. Choose on the shape of the turning. Nothing is saved by picking a simpler profile: the V1 opens the range and the V3 is the one that also comes as a V3B.

Timber: LOSP treated pine, H3

LOSP treated pine, H3 rated for outdoor use above ground. LOSP is a solvent-borne preservative rather than a water-borne one, which is why it suits turned work: the timber holds its shape and keeps a crisp bead and cove instead of furring up. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, these posts carry our 25 year guarantee.

Before it goes up

Two thin coats of oil-based primer on all six faces, before installation — including the end grain top and bottom, which is where a verandah post fails first. Let the timber sit for at least 72 hours after delivery before you paint it. Then topcoat in acrylic, water-based or oil-based, two to three thin coats.

Product and ordering questions

What sections and lengths does the V2 verandah post come in?

Three squared sections - 88 x 88mm, 112 x 112mm and 135 x 135mm - in five lengths: 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m and 3.6m. Every combination is made and priced.

How do I tell which verandah post I already have?

Photograph one of the surviving posts square-on, in good light, with a tape measure held against the shaft so the scale can be read. Send a second shot of the base and a third of the head where the post meets the beam. Between the photographs and two measurements - the floor-to-beam height and the squared section - we can tell you which of the five you have. The matching service costs nothing.
