V7 Victorian Verandah Post Column — Plain, Fluted & Handrail Block
The V7 is a Victorian verandah post column, and it is a different animal to the Federation posts elsewhere in the Heritage & Decorative Timber Products range. Where a Federation post is turned or chamfered, a column is architectural — a straight shaft with a defined head and base, the detail worked into the shaft rather than spun onto it. It is the post for a Victorian terrace, a boom-style villa, or any frontage where the verandah is meant to read as formal.

Three versions, three price tables
- V7 — plain column. The shaft left plain. The quietest of the three and the one that sits back behind a heavy frieze or a busy balustrade.
- V7F — fluted column. Shallow vertical channels cut into the shaft. Fluting is the classic Victorian column treatment: it lengthens the post to the eye and gives it a strong vertical shadow.
- V7FH — fluted with handrail block. The same fluted column, made with a solid block worked into the shaft at handrail height. That block is where your balustrade lands. Without it, a balustrade has to be scribed and fixed against a fluted face, which never looks right and never fixes well. If your verandah has a balustrade, this is the version you want.
V7 sections and lengths
Two squared sections. 88 x 88mm is made in 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m and 3.3m. 112 x 112mm is made in those four plus 3.6m. All three versions follow the same size pattern, and the price tables below cover every combination. There is no 135 x 135mm in the V7 range — for a heavier post, look at the Federation V1–V6 range, which goes to 135 x 135mm. The nearest Federation post is the V6, a square shaft chamfered or fluted rather than turned; the other Victorian design is the V8, the most heavily worked post in the range.
Ordering the handrail block
Tell us the finished balustrade height you are working to when you order a V7FH, and whether the post is an end post, an intermediate post or a corner — a corner post needs the block worked on two faces. Building-code heights for balustrades depend on your situation; confirm them with your builder or surveyor before the posts are made, because a handrail block cannot be moved afterwards.
Timber and guarantee
LOSP treated pine, H3 rated for outdoor use above ground. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, V7 columns carry our 25 year guarantee. Prime all six faces with two thin coats of oil-based primer before installation — fluting has more surface area and more places for water to sit than a plain shaft, so get the primer into the channels properly — then topcoat and keep the film sound.

What is the difference between the V7, V7F and V7FH?
The V7 is the plain column, with the shaft left plain. The V7F is the fluted column, with shallow vertical channels cut into the shaft. The V7FH is the same fluted column made with a solid block worked into the shaft at handrail height, which is where your balustrade lands. If your verandah has a balustrade, the V7FH is the version you want.
