What you are buying
One Victorian verandah post in LOSP treated pine, supplied unpainted and ready to prime. Post caps, capitals, corner brackets and droppers are separate items.
V8 sections and lengths
Two squared sections. 88 x 88mm is made in 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m and 3.3m. 112 x 112mm is made in those four lengths plus 3.6m. There is no 135 x 135mm in the Victorian range — if you need a heavier post, the Federation V1–V6 designs go up to 135 x 135mm.
V8 or V7?
Both are Victorian. The V7 is a column, offered plain, fluted, or fluted with a handrail block worked into the shaft. The V8 is the more decorative post of the two and is priced above every V7 variant at the same size. If you are matching an existing verandah, send us a photograph rather than deciding from a screen — square-on, in good light, with a tape held against the shaft, plus one shot of the head and one of the base. Quotes are free. The workshop checks the profile, dimensions and quantity before confirming the price.
How to measure
Finished verandah floor to the underside of the beam. Allow for the base detail and for any fall in the floor — on an old verandah the post at the outer corner is frequently not the same length as the one against the house. Order the next length up if you are between sizes; a post can be cut down on site.
Timber and guarantee
LOSP treated pine, H3 rated for outdoor use above ground. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, the V8 carries our 25 year guarantee — which is conditional on the post being primed and painted properly and kept that way. Two thin coats of oil-based primer on all six faces before installation, at least 72 hours after delivery before you start, then two to three thin topcoats. A post with this much detail in it has correspondingly more places for water to sit, so work the primer into every recess and inspect it once a year.
