Timber Frieze Panel Prices — A, B, C & G Ranges

A frieze panel is the decorative run that fills the space between verandah posts, immediately under the beam. Fretwork is pierced and open; a frieze is a patterned band with a defined height. Most period verandahs carry one or the other, and a good many carry both.

What you get

  • Australian made — every product, made in our Bayswater workshop since 1984
  • 25 year guarantee — on external LOSP H3 treated pine, above ground
  • An answer within one business day — we reply to enquiries and quote requests
  • In stock, or made in 1 to 4 weeks — some of the range is in stock; the rest is made to order
  • Timber-profile matching — from a photograph, drawing or sample

Everything on this list is priced per lineal metre. You buy the length of the opening; the panel is made to your width. What is fixed is the height, and that is what separates the four ranges.

The four ranges, and how to choose between them

RangeCodesHeight
ASA1FW – SA27FW270mm
BSB1FW – SB6FW400mm
CSC1FW – SC8FW270mm
GSG1FW – SG12FW440mm

Fifty-three designs across the four ranges. Choose the range by height first, then the pattern within it. The height has to suit the gap between the top of your posts and the underside of the beam, and it has to look right on the frontage: a 270mm A or C frieze is a discreet band, while a 440mm G frieze is a substantial feature that will dominate a low verandah and look magnificent on a tall one.

Within the A range, the price splits into two bands — the first twenty-three designs sit at one rate and the last four at another, so check which side of that line your pattern falls on before you settle.

The same patterns, three ways

The SA, SB, SC and SG pattern numbers run across three different products:

  • …FW — frieze work, the external verandah panel priced here.
  • …WP — the same pattern made as an internal window pelmet.
  • …PS — the same pattern made as a privacy screen.

So a house can carry one pattern on the verandah frieze, again over the curtains inside, and again on the courtyard screen. If that is the effect you want, choose the pattern once and order it three ways.

How to measure

Measure the clear opening between posts, inside face to inside face, at each bay — that is your lineal metres. Take it at more than one height if the posts are old, because they bow, and the gap at the top is often not the gap further down. Then measure the available drop: from the underside of the beam down to where you want the frieze to finish. That number picks your range.

If you are matching an existing frieze, photograph it straight-on with a tape laid alongside for scale, and add a close-up of the pattern. If you can get a section of the original down safely, send it — copying the real panel beats working from a photograph every time.

Timber and guarantee

External frieze work is LOSP treated pine, H3 rated for outdoor use above ground. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, it carries the Heritage & Decorative Timber Products 25 year guarantee. Prime every face before installation, including inside each pierced cut, then topcoat and keep the film sound.

Free quotes. Send a photograph, drawing or sample for matching work. Australian made, delivered Australia-wide. Call 03 9720 1996.

Product and ordering questions

How is frieze work priced?

By the lineal metre of span. There are four ranges and the range letter is the height: A is SA1FW to SA27FW at 270mm, B is SB1FW to SB6FW at 400mm, C is SC1FW to SC8FW at 270mm, and G is SG1FW to SG12FW at 440mm. Fifty-three designs across the four ranges. Choose the range by height first, then the pattern within it.

How do I measure for a frieze panel?

Measure the clear opening between posts, inside face to inside face, at each bay - that is your lineal metres. Take it at more than one height if the posts are old, because they bow. Then measure the available drop, from the underside of the beam down to where you want the frieze to finish. That number picks your range.
